Natural England Research Update

  1. Noise disturbance monitoring – this project will gather data on noise levels across the Solent and how SPA features respond to these during the over-wintering period through a combination of sound recording and on the ground surveys. Surveys will commence in October 2023 and run until Jan / Feb next year with report expected by the end of March 2024.
  2. Mapping debris – this project will use pre-existing aerial images (a combination of satellite and UAV) ground-truthed by walkover surveys to produce a map of debris on the intertidal of Solent Maritime SAC to inform whether this is causing damage to/preventing growth of sensitive features such as seagrass. The report will included details on how easy each piece would be to clean-up. Report expected by the end of March 2024.
